Napa martial arts instructor Terry Brule has received international certification as a fifth-degree black belt in Taekwondo, as well as earning his international Master instructor license.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art and sport, best known for its dynamic aerial kicking techniques. It is the world’s fastest growing traditional martial art, and the only form of karate included in the Olympic Games.

Master Brule is certified through the World Taekwondo headquarters (Kukkiwon) located in Seoul, Korea.

Brule holds official Referee certification in Olympic Taekwondo competition, as well as Level-1 coach certification through U.S.A. Taekwondo (USAT), the sole representative to the International Olympic Committee.

Brule also holds certification as a CDT (Non-Deadly Force) Tactical Master Instructor in Family Protection.

Master Brule began his study of the martial arts in 1990 under Phillip Fontaine and Grandmaster S.W. Lee (the founder of Taekwondo in Napa).

Brule began his teaching career in 1993 with a program at Westwood Elementary School (now NVLA). A second martial arts program was started at Salvador Elementary, along with the addition of classes for teens and adults.

In 2005, the Napa Taekwondo Academy was officially opened as a commercial school.

Brule is a 1980 graduate of the Napa Valley school system and holds a diploma from the Phoenix Institute of Technology. Brule enjoys both classical and contemporary live music, as well as outdoor hiking and dirt biking.

“My goal is to help others attain self awareness, empowerment, and happiness through the amazing journey that the study of martial arts has to offer.”
